What its like in Granada1/16/2010
Granada is one of those cities I knew nothing about before I arrived. All I knew was that I had to go.
I’m starting to realize that so much of my travel experience is directly related to my experience in the hostel. I created all these wonderful, elaborate hour by hour travel plans. It seems most of those go out the window when I get here.
I’m glad to say that Oasis Hostel in Granada, is a superb place to stay. Probably more young people than any other hostel I’ve stayed at to this point. Yesterday it seems I hardly knew anyone, now I know almost everyone. Thats the great thing about extended stays, though I stayed in Granada for only 3 nights.
I only had 2 full days to stay in Granada.
The first day I spent on a walking tour sponsored by the hostel. It was a good way to explore the city. Our guide was very enthusiastic about Granada history. Afterwards I did my own walking tour where I spent about 2 hours getting purposely lost in the city. I always take the scenic route when in doubt.
Later that night I went to a club that didn’t get started until around 3AM with a group from my hostel. Again, we get lost. Granada is very easy to get lost in and the streets are very narrow. It’s quite a trip everytime I go walking. I did not get home until around 6Am which made me very cranky the next day.
Today!
I had a rough afternoon. The one thing I feared most happened: I got sick. ALL because I stayed out wayy too late. I ended up going to La Alhambra for about an hour. I was extremly frustrated finding the place, well the entrance, and put myself in a bad mood. When I finally found the place, I only had an hour to view the whole castle. Hardly enough time.
I’m typing from my hostel lobby and my battery is low. I head to Sevilla tomorrow for more good times and fun experiences.
