Where is the real tomb of Christopher Colombus?1/18/2010

Today I had the pleasure of visiting the Seville Cathedral, home of the tomb of Christopher Columbus.
The cathedral is an amazing display of Spanish architecture and the crown jewel of Seville. However, I am not so sure what I saw was the actual tomb of the great explorer Christopher Columbus.
Here are some pictures I took of the tomb in Seville today.

As a kid I remember a week vacation me and my family took to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. There we visited a museum that housed…the tomb of Christopher Columbus!
(Side note: I remember this experience quite well as the area was guarded by armed soldiers. They got mad at me and stomped there guns a few times when I sat down on the outside of the tomb to rest. As a 12 year old kid I didn’t know better!)

So which is the real one?
After some further research, I am convinced that I have seen the REAL Christopher Columbus tomb, I’m just not sure which location is the authentic and which is the fake or if they are both real!
DNA tests have been done on the remains at the Seville location, but tests proved inconclusive. Many historians believe that the tomb at this location is actually that of Columbus’s son, Diego, who was a bit frailer and younger when he died than the great explorer.
Meanwhile, in Santo Domingo, a box with bone fragments was discovered in 1877 labeled, “Don Christopher Columbus”. The Dominican Republic government will not allow the body remains to be exhumed, so we may never know the exact resting place
of Columbus.
